Agartala: Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) has faced a serious financial crisis to the tune of Rs 16 crore average monthly following the procurement of power from outside at high cost.
Power Minister Manik Dey said here on Tueday Tripura had been buying at least 110 MW power from outside, as domestic demand reached at 228 MW daily against the own generation of 118 MW.
Palatana has added woes to the state, as even after a month of formal commissioning of 363 MW capacity combine cycle first unit of Palatana, Northeast’s biggest gas based clean energy project by President Pranab Mukherjee, is yet to start generation, Dey rued.
The project had been delayed more than a year and still it could not finish trail run though ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) had launched commercial production last month in presence of the President and Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily but it held up soon after inauguration.
Misunderstanding between OTPC and ONGC had affected the entire gas supply system of the project that results suspension of production of power and still ONGC could not manage the supply of gas after cleaning up the supply line.
“Unless Palatana starts generation, there is no chance of improvement of power situation in the state and though OTPC is saying to complete trial run by end of the month I can’t accept it till it gets rectified,” said Dey. (UNI)
