SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP), Shillong City District Youth Wing met here on Wednesday and discussed several issues including the unprovoked action of the Assam Police against the border residents of Meghalaya, in particular the SSA school and the women protestors at Sabuda in Ri Bhoi district.
“It is surprising why the Congress-led Government of Meghalaya is just a mute spectator,” UDP Youth Wing general secretary Danny Dunai said.
The meeting also decided to seek a clarification from the Chief Secretary with regards to the Scheduled Tribe certificate of the Chief Minister and his younger brother, in light of the result of another similar case of Ajit Jogi, former Congress Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
The meeting also resolved to suggest to the authority to constitute the District Selection Committee, in the same manner that the State Public Commission is constituted, to maintain a certain standard that will gain the public trust.
The youth wing also expressed concern over the growing crimes against women and children and stated that the rise in crimes against women and children is indicative of lack of efforts on the part of certain departments of the government.
The young wing also took a dig at the Government for its inaction on the CBI report on appointment of teachers, and the failure of the police to nab CM Jha and Nurul Islam.
While expressing its concern over the traffic congestion in Shillong city, the party said the growing congestion warrants the need for specialized urban planners to regulate and ease the present traffic situation in the city.
The UDP youth wing also castigated the repeated rise in prices of petrol, leading to price rise of essential commodities, but at the same time it supported the call against railway line in the State on the grounds that the ecology would be greatly disturbed and influx would increase.
