SHILLONG: The Shillong Jail Road Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Jail Road, Shillong celebrated the International Year of Mathematics in the school premises that concluded on Friday.
The two-day celebration was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo on Thursday.
On the opening day, a workshop-cum-orientation -programme for the mathematics teachers of secondary and higher secondary schools of the city was organized.
The theme of the workshop was “Innovative Approach to Mathematics”, in which resource persons from North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Don Bosco University, Guwahati gave lectures on how to implement innovative means in teaching Mathematics in the classroom, so that Mathematics becomes interesting as well as student-friendly.
A total of 45 teachers attended the workshop cum orientation programme.
On the second day of the celebration, students from various schools of the city participated in inter-school programmes like Mental Maths (written contest), mathematics quiz and mathematics exhibition of various models, charts.
A separate section of the charts were also displayed showing tricks and magic with numbers.
Over 90 students from various city schools participated in these competitions organised to observe the occasion.
