St Francis D’ Assisi College holds convocation ceremony

NONGSTOIN: St Francis D’ Assisi College of Siejlieh Nongstoin, organized their first ever convocation at the college premises on Saturday.

Attending the function as Chief Guest was Rev Brother Superior General and Brother Hernand Wanniang was the Guest of Honour. Also at the function was Most Rev Dominic Jala Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese.

The convocation honoured the passing out of three of its students.

Speaking at the function, Brother Herman Wanniang in his speech said the college was established on 1st July 2010 and had only evening shifts. In 2011, the shift was changed to day shift and from a humble 11 students, the strength of the college shot to 180 at present with 10 faculty members.

He also explained that the college received its NOC from the Govt of Meghalaya on November, 2012.

He added that they had sent the application for affiliation to NEHU and were awaiting their response. He said the college had produced good results and that the overall pass percentage of the college was 85.71%.

Rev Brother Superior General lauded the efforts of the Principal and faculty members of the college. He said that Nongstoin had just two colleges and Nongstoin College was difficult for students to get admitted to.

He added that St Francis de Assisi mostly catered to the students from rural areas.

He congratulated the efforts of the college faculty and requested them to continue with their endeavor to educate the masses.
