SHILLONG: Opposition UDP has slammed the Congress-led MUA Government for failing to resolve the long-pending boundary dispute with Assam despite being in power for the maximum number years since the State attained its Statehood.

“It is more distressful to see that the party failing to make any earnest effort to resolve this long-pending issue despite having a Congress-led Government in Meghalaya, Assam and also at the Centre,” UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said while addressing a gathering at Sabuda on Monday.

He also criticized Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, Home Minister Roshan Warjri and Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Revenue and Disaster Management for failing to visit Sabuda to infuse confidence among the villagers after Assam Police personnel allegedly manhandled some women who were protesting against dismantling of Sabuda Presbyterian LP School (SSA)’s kitchen shed.

He said that Assam has been able to intrude into Meghalaya and manhandle the villagers “since the Chief Minister is spending most of his time outside the State.” The UDP working president said his party would soon write to the Government to upgrade the Mawlasnai police outpost to a fullfledge police station to provide better protection to villagers residing along the inter-State border with Assam.
