SHILLONG: Meghalaya Cooperation Minister, HDR Lyngdoh, on Tuesday inaugurated the first Traveller’s Nest at Umiaphati, Umden, Ri Bhoi District, in the presence of Chief Adviser to the State Government DD Lapang, Chief Secretary WMS Pariat, Commissioner & Secretary, RV Suchiang, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, V Kumar and Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Akash Deep, beside others.
The Traveller’s Nest is owned and managed by the Diwon Khadi & Handloom Cooperative Society Ltd and sponsored by the Department of Cooperation.
In his speech as the chief guest, Lyngdoh lauded the untiring efforts of the Department and the Cooperative Society for their endeavour in building the Traveller’s Nest for the benefit of the people especially tourists.
He also said that the Diwon Society should create job avenues for the people of the area, adding that the ‘Nest’ will help them to be financially stable.
The Minister also urged upon the other Societies in various parts of the State to promote themselves through various Government schemes.
