Agartala: Setting tune for strengthening organization, newly appointed Congress Legislator Party (CLP) leader Sudip Roy Barman on Monday made it clear that the party would try to reach to the grass-root level leaders and workers.
After appointment of DC Hrangkhawl and Asish Kumar Saha as PCC president and working president respectively, we had a close-door meeting where organizational loopholes have been identified, Roy Barman told The Shillong Times in an exclusive interview.
“Till today, only 10 lakh people of the total population is being covered by the media- both electronic and print which means most of the people are not aware about the day-to-day happenings or welfare schemes of the Central government”, he pointed out.
Taking the advantage of the situation, the ruling CPM has been spearheading propaganda against Congress in far-flung areas and reaping harvesting during the elections but this would not going to be sustained for long time.
Roy Barman said, “Our main emphasis will be on to reach out to the grass-root people as much as possible and for that rejuvenation of grass root organization is a must. The party as a whole will bring a massive change in the booth level set up to reach out to the people with the UPA government-mulled welfare programmes”.
He said there would be efforts to enlighten grass root party workers on the 16 flagship programmes offered by the Congress led UPA government. “We will bring new faces in the grass-root workers to counter the CPM’s malicious campaign against Congress. While rejuvenating booth level set up, we will try to ensure good representation from educated youth, women and youth from minority community”, he said.
On the role as CLP leader, Roy Barman said, “I am, indeed, indebted to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice president Rahul Gandhi for giving such a responsibility. I will do my level best to uphold the dignity of the ‘chair’ as set by my predecessors”.
Terming his assignment as CLP leader is challenging, he said, “I have learnt a lot from the incumbent Ratan Lal Nath who has been performing in the post for the past ten years. I do hope, party colleagues like Birajit Sinha, Gopal Roy and Jitendra Sarkar will help me to perform my duty in the Assembly as well as outside the house”.
Noting that he doesn’t believe in individual charishma in the party, Roy Barmman added, “ I will ensure all our MLAs to perform on the floor of the Assembly and highlight people’s concern”.
