SHILLONG: The Opposition National People’s Party (NPP) demanded strict adherence to the Employment Policy of the state besides immediate cancelling of an advertisement for the post of two Assistant Conservators of Forests since the displaced persons from East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh ) residing permanently in Meghalaya or intending to reside in the state possessing citizenship have also been invited to apply for the post.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, NPP Spokesperson James Sangma said, ” We totally oppose this move by the Mukul Sangma-led government as we see in it a sinister design and a hidden agenda,”

The NPP leader also pointed out that Meghalaya has a very clear cut Employment Policy which mandates 40% for Khasi/Jaintia, 40% for Garos, 15% for Other Tribes and 5% General category and in this present case, only two posts are being advertised in which case 5% does not fit in with the number of posts.

While terming the advertisement as anti-national and amounting to treason Sangma made it clear that a ‘foreigner’ is not normally eligible to hold any Government post which is meant for a citizen of India.
