Hyderabad: Irrespective of the parties, MPs and MLAs from Seemandhra region are resigning from their posts in protest against the Congress Working Committee’s recommendation to the Centre last evening to create a separate state of Telangana by taking ten districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Unhappy over Congress party’s decision to carve out separate state of Telangana, Congress MP and three legislators from Rayalaseema and Andhra regions resigned Tuesday night.
Congress MP from Guntur Rayapati Sambasiva Rao has resigned both from the party and the Lok Sabha.
Mr Rao, who is visiting the US, faxed his resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Twenty-Point Programme Committee Chairman Tulsi Reddy was the first to announce his resignation after the CWC decision was announced by senior Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Digvijay Singh. Mr Reddy faxed his resignation to PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana.
In East Godavari district, Congress legislators P Satish Kumar, who represents Mummidivaram constituency and Thota Trimurhtulu from Ramchandrapuram constituency in the district have resigned. They sent their resignations to Assembly Speaker N Manohar as a mark of protest against the CWC’s decision.
Another legislator from Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of Anantapur district P Abdul Gani also announced his resignation. (UNI)
