WIFS for adolescents to be launched

 NONGSTOIN: The Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, West Khasi Hills will be launching the weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS) Programme in the district on August 3 at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills, Mawkyrwat.

WIFSaims to address nutritional anaemia among adolescents. Under the programme, supervised Iron-Folic Acid (IFA) would be given to anaemic adolescents in the age group of 10-19 years.

The programme would focus on two categories – School going adolescent girls and boys in government/ government aided/ municipal schools from classes 6-12 and Community based through the Anganwadi Centre for out of school adolescent girls.

The Programme will also cover married-pregnant and lactating Adolescent Girls. Free IFA tablets will be distributed on a weekly basis to all the target groups.

Albendazole will be distributed twice a year to control worm infestation.
