AMPATI: South West Garo Hills District on Wednesday celebrated its first foundation day here at the Ampati Students’ Field with a programme attended by Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister informed that all offices would be occupied by concerned officers within the next two months in all the four newly-created districts.
Dr Sangma, while stressing on the importance of the Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign Movement in providing livelihood generation opportunities for the youth, stated that competitiveness among the youth in applying for jobs was imperative.
A career guidance and counseling scheme has been started in every district with the aim of providing the youth with a right to a secure future, stated Dr. Sangma who stressed on the need to take care of the fragile environment.
Cautioning people indulging in crimes against the community, Dr. Sangma stated that they would be punished according to the law of the land.
During the last 2-3 years, Meghalaya had been one of the fastest growing states in the country according to the Planning Commission, Dr. Sangma informed.
He urged the people to create an enabling environment to respect each other and to promote communal harmony so that the glorious past of Garo Hills might be restored.
On the day, solar lamps were distributed to the Class X students of the district by the Chief Minister.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Deputy Chief Minister Prof. RC Laloo, Minister for Youth Affairs, Zenith M Sangma, Parliamentary Secretary Noverfield R Marak and GHADC Chief Executive Member Alphonse A Sangma.
