SHILLONG: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Meghalaya, Luizinho Faleiro has exuded confidence that the Congress-led UPA Government will be able manage the necessary numbers to pass the Food Security Bill in Parliament.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Faleiro said the party would leave no stone unturned to get the Bill passed in Parliament. While stating that several states have already agreed to implement the food scheme from August 20, he said that the party would ensure that various units of the party meet regularly to ensure effective implementation of the Food Security Bill.

Around 21 lakh population of Meghalaya will be benefitted from the scheme as one beneficiary is legally entitled to get 5 kg of rice at Rs 3 per kg

“The next ten day will be for claims and objections for the inclusion of beneficiaries in the list,” he said.

According to Dr Sangma, the State Government has taken several steps and he is personally monitoring the implementation of the scheme.
