SHILLONG: The North East Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC) has stressed on the need to fix minimum support price for Meghalaya’s horticulture produce including orange and pineapple for the benefit of farmers
A delegation of Maharashtra Finance Commission along with the members of NERAMAC, which is on an exposure trip to the State, held discussion with the State Government officials including Chief Secretary WMS Pariat here on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, the NERAMAC’s Managing Director (North East) Vinod Kalbande said that the State must move the Union Agriculture Ministry for fixing minimum support price (MSP) for horticulture produces.
“The MSP has to be fixed for cash crops too and then NERAMAC can intervene and provide the necessary infrastructure including cold storage,” he said.
According to Kalbande, Meghalaya needs to have better connectivity to export the agricultural produces to other metropolitan cities of the country
Happy with the fact that agricultural products are naturally organic, he said that he would call in organic certification agencies to the region to export the produces to even European countries.
