SHILLONG: Police on Monday arrested former Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister L Wanglet for allegedly abusing the women security guards of the Shillong Golf Course.

Confirming this, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that the arrest was made on the basis of an FIR filed by the CSWO.

“He (Wanglet) was later released on bail since it was a bailable offence,” Kharkrang added.

Meanwhile, Shillong Golfer’s Association (SGA) president AL Hek has termed the decision of the Shillong Club management to terminate the services of the lady security guards as ‘biased’.

“How can one take such a decision without hearing both the parties? The lady security guards should have been given an opportunity of being heard before sacking them,” Hek said.

He said that the Shillong Club has taken the decision solely on the basis of the complaint lodged by Wanglet.

The Shillong Club management has, meanwhile, responded to Hek’s letter on this issue.

“The Club management, however, preferred to remain silent on the issue of Wanglet allegedly using abusive words against the lady guards,” SGA president said.

Earlier, the Shillong Club Ltd made it clear that it is ready to re-employ the female security guards whose services were terminated provides they approached through some other security agency.

In a statement issued here on Friday, RL Shullai, the director of Shillong Club said that the Club Management (Golf Section) has not had any problem with female security guards. “The problem has been with the agency owned by one RA Marak whose behavior and services have been unsatisfactory and unacceptable.”
