Awareness programme on ‘safe secure Shillong’ held

 SHILLONG: In continuance with the ‘Safe Secure Shillong’ project, the East Khasi Hills police in collaboration with St. Anthony’s College conducted a one-day awareness programme on law and order issues for the students at the college premises here on Tuesday.

The programme saw an active participation of as many as 1400 students. Speakers on this day, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang, SP (City) Vivek Syiem, SDM Police Unit Hospital Dr S Khonglah and Inspector In charge of Sadar PS Subir Sangma delivered lectures on various themes ranging from drugs, traffic rules to law and order situations.

Delivering her speech, Dr Khonglah highlighted on the ill effects of chewing tobacco, smoking, consumption of alcohol and drugs on the physical and mental health of humans, particularly teenagers.

Vivek Syiem SP (City), deliberated at length on issues relating to drugs and stated, “There is a rising rate of Narcotic Drug relating cases and it’s peddling in the city via Myanmar and neighboring states.”

Meanwhile, Inspector Subir Sangma gave a presentation on traffic rules and regulations and on the need to abide by such rules.

On the same note, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang encouraged the students to abide by the law and to refrain from the use of drugs.
