SHILLONG: In a definite boost to the Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee (MBCC) ahead of the 2014 District Council elections, MDP Mawkynrew unit president Klip Lynshing along with three party workers joined the Congress on Tuesday.
Explaining his decision to join Congress, Lynshing said, “The Meghalaya Democratic party has been in crisis mode ever since the defeat of former Dienglieng legislator and party president Martle M Mukhim in the 2008 Assembly election.”
“The party unit suffered badly after Mukhim’s defeat. We were hoping that the MDP president would manage a comeback in 2013 but he was again defeated,” Lynshing said, while ruing that fact that the party president had earlier rejected an appeal from the Mawkynrew MDP unit to merge with the Congress.
“The national party (Congress) is the only stable party which can ensure development in the region,” Lynshing added.
Meanwhile, Lynshing and the others were welcomed into the Congress fold by MBCC president Teilang Blah and vice president Kansing Lynshing.
