SHILLONG: The State DGP PJP Hanaman has admitted lapses on the part of police in handling the case of CM Jha, the absconding Chancellor of CMJ University.

“There were lapses from the beginning,” Hanaman said here on Wednesday.

According to him, police should have arrested Jha first instead of other functionaries of the university.

Jha has been absconding since the CID took up case.

It was former Governor RS Mooshahary, who as the Visitor of this University, had lodged a police complaint about alleged irregularities and had even prohibited any fresh admission in the university.

Jha, who is still at large, meanwhile obtained anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court.
