SHILLONG: The agitating NGOs and East Khasi Hills administration are at loggerheads over the venue of August 16 rally.

While the NGOs are adamant to hold the rally at Motphran, the district administration has fixed Students’ Field, Jaiaw as the venue for the same.

The authorities observed that since the government has already called the NGOs for talks, allowing the meeting at any other venue could create law and order problems in the city.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal’s efforts to persuade the NGOs to call off their proposed rally failed to yield any positive result.

“We are going ahead with the August 16 rally at Motphran,” KSU president Daniel Khyriem said.
