JOWAI: The village dorbar of Shnongpdeng under Amlarem Sub-Division in West Jaintia Hills District has strongly opposed the proposed leasing of the portion of River Umngot at Shnongpdeng village by the Fishery Department of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

The JHADC has called for an open tender on Monday and the Dorbar Shnong has appealed to all interested parties to refrain from submitting their tenders.

“The move of the JHADC will rob the poor of their livelihood,” said the village secretary, Lasting Gadew adding that the villagers depend on the river for their livelihood.
