SHILLONG: The State Government has urged the Centre to appoint one additional judge in the Meghalaya High Court for quick disposal of cases.
The High Court of Meghalaya at present has two judges while the court is also awaiting appointment of a new chief justice in place of Justice T Meena Kumari, who retired recently.
Since then Justice T. Nandakumar Singh has been officiating as the acting chief justice.
Law Minister Rowell Lyngdoh told reporters that the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has already moved the Centre for the early appointment of a new Chief Justice and also one more judge.
“I don’t think we have a huge load of pending cases in High court,” Lyngdoh said.
Out of the 1,158 pending cases, the High Court has disposed 102 cases in the last one month.
