Tura Press Club formed

TURA: In an effort to promote the profession of journalism and related fields in Garo Hills through education, social and charitable initiatives, an emergent meeting of working journalists of the region held on Saturday last at the office of the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, Tura, formed the Tura Press Club.

The Tura Press Club (TPC) was formed to establish a professional and cultural platform for journalists working in Garo Hills and encourage the highest standards of professional integrity and skill in the reporting of news and also help educate a new generation of journalists thereby contributing to expand the freedom and independence of the Fourth Estate.

David D Shira was elected as president, Chean R Marak as vice-president, Silvan A Sangma as general secretary, Salniatchi D Ch Marak as joint secretary and Lenient D Sangma as treasurer.

The newly-constituted Tura Press Club met on Tuesday to mourn the untimely demise of State journalist Suraj Joshi.
