SHILLONG: Political parties of the State have expressed their ignorance on the proposed all-party meeting convened by the Chief Minister on September 3 to discuss the issue of implementation of the Inner Line permit (ILP) in the State.

When contacted, representatives and leaders of several political parties on Friday confirmed that they have not received any official invitation for the all-important meeting.

Garo National Council (GNC) legislator Clifford Marak said, “If invited, I would definitely attend the meeting.”

HSPDP chief Hoping Stone Lyngdoh denied having received any invitation for the all-party.

The UDP and the NPP also confirmed that they had not received any official invitation from the Government for the meeting.

BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty also stated that his party was yet to receive any intimation from the Chief Minister.

Commissioner and Secretary Political (Home), F Kharlyngdoh, however, informed that the official invitation for the meeting has already been sent to all the political parties in the State.

“We also sent invitations to all the ministers today,” he said.

KHNAM to boycott

all-party meet

The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), while reiterating its support to implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State, has decided to boycott the September 3 all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma to discuss the influx issue.

“We have decided to boycott the meeting since the State Government has outrightly rejected the demand for implementation of the ILP during its meeting with the NGOs yesterday,” KHNAM working president Adelbert Nongrum said during a press conference here on Friday.

Asserting that it was the responsibility of both the Centre and the State government to .

(Contd from P-1) check and prevent influx in Meghalaya, Nongrum made it clear that the KHNAM has resolved to continue demanding for implementation of the ILP since it is the only mechanism that can effectively check influx in the State.

The party also demanded that the State Government should immediately pass a resolution in the Legislative Assembly on implementation of the ILP in the State.

The KHNAM leader also took a dig at the UDP for failing to highlight the issue of influx or ILP in their party manifesto in the last Assembly election in the State.

The party is likely to approach the HSPDP to work together to pressurize the government for implementing the ILP in the State.
