SHILLONG: Irked by the irresponsive attitude of the State Government vis-à-vis their demands, the agitating school and college teachers of the State, under the banner of Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM), have decided to meet on Saturday to finalise their future course of action.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Youth Hostel here at 11 am.

Meanwhile, during a meeting held on Friday the teachers’ association took exception to the cold shoulder shown by Education Minister Prof. RC Laloo towards their demand.

The JACATAM was hoping for a meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister In charge of Education to apprise him of their various demands like regular and uniform payment of salary to all the teachers of the government-aided schools and colleges, provincialisation of teachers’ services, implementation of the state education policy and MBOSE examination reforms.

Highlighting the future course of action to be taken by the association following the failure of the State Government to meet their demands, JACATAM chairman ED Nongsiang said, “We met today to discuss the issue. However, the final decision will be taken on Saturday when we meet again. “By tomorrow, we will be in a position to finalise the various agitation programme that we seek to launch.”
