NONGSTOIN: The second Nongstoin Trade Fair, an event that attempts to bring the tiny district town in West Khasi Hills to the global map, kick-started at New Nongstoin play ground here on Friday.
This would be the biggest trade fair in Nongstoin so far featuring around 40 stalls from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal along with the ones from within the country.
The trade fair will conclude on September 10.
The event which is expected to add fillip to the ties between India and its neighbours and more importantly act as a bridge between Nongstoin and South East Asia in the long run is being organized by the Guwahati-based Bahniman Economic Development Society (BEDS).
Besides hosting the stalls which would showcase the unique and useful products from the neighbouring nations and the rest of the country, the trade fair also gives an opportunity to the local artisans to exhibit their products and also gather experience from the event. Various handloom and handicrafts products from across India and the participating countries will be on display during the trade fair. The organisers expect that with time the event will shape into something substantial and beneficial for the people of Nongstoin.
“The good behavior of the people here has encouraged us come back again,” the organizers added.
