SHILLONG: Government has deferred Tuesday’s all-party meeting on ILP to September 5 following a request from UDP.
Informing this here on Monday, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that UDP made a request to fix the meeting to a new date.
Meanwhile, UDP president Dr Donkupar Roy said that he had made a personal request to the Chief Minister to postpone the meeting to enable the party to discuss the issue.
“I will be convening a meeting of the party leaders, which will be attended by all UDP MLAs and MDCs, to discuss the matter on Tuesday,” Dr Roy said.
“I could not convene the meeting on Monday due to the 12-hour bandh called by the NGOs. The party needs to discuss the issue before attending the all-party meet,” the UDP president said.
Dr Roy received the letter from the government on the proposed all-party meeting only on Sunday evening.
Interestingly, HSPDP is yet to receive any intimation from Government about the meeting.
“We have neither been invited nor informed about the postponement of the proposed meeting,” HSPDP general secretary Enbin K Raswai said adding “This gives an impression that the Government is not keen to invite us to the meeting.”
Meanwhile, KHNAM has decided to stick to its stand of boycotting the meeting.
“It is pointless to attend the meeting since the Government has already made up its mind to oppose the implementation of ILP,” KHNAM secretary Adelbert Nongrum said.
