Dubai: Dubai’s driving licensing department has launched a project in which tablet computers are being given to the authority’s inspectors to test trainee drivers in the city.
“The move will help inspectors gauge errors committed by trainees during the test in a very accurate and clear manner rather than the old handwriting method on paper,” said Sultan Al Marzouqi, director of driver licensing at the Road Transport Authority.
“These tablet computers can calculate all errors, and once they are connected to the internet, they are directly linked to the electronic traffic system and show the final result of the trainees, as well as the possibility of trainees receiving the result printed in Arabic and English,” he added. Saudi Arabia to sack judges for using Twitter

Dubai: Two judges in Saudi Arabia could be fired from their job for breaching the strict rules of their profession which bans the use of social media networks.
The two judges, from Jeddah and Riyadh, reportedly used microblogging site Twitter and an investigation committee found that the judges failed to abide by the policy that banned judges and magistrates from participating in all forms of written, audio and visual media.
According to Gulf News, the ban on using the public domain is aimed to protect the nature of their profession and uphold the independence and sovereignty of the judiciary. (ANI)

Monster croc in Aus island traps tourist for two weeks

Melbourne: In a lucky escape, a New Zealand tourist has been rescued after being trapped by a massive six-metre-long crocodile for a nightmarish two weeks in a remote Australian island.
The man, known as Ryan, was last month exploring the northern Western Australia coast near Kalumburu in his kayak. Having been left on the remote Governor Island, the man realised he didn’t have enough supplies and attempted to paddle the four kilometres or so back to the mainland.
However, he spotted a six-metre saltwater crocodile and every time he attempted to leave, the creature would make his presence felt, leaving the adventurer stranded for a fortnight.
The man was finally rescued when Kalumburu local Don Mcleod spotted a light on the island over the weekend and found him, ‘The West Australian’ reported. Mcleod said Ryan was a “very, very lucky man”.
“He said every time he got in his little kayak, which was only 2.5m long, this crocodile – who has lived there for many years and is a monster – chased him,” Mcleod said. “He said he was there for a fortnight and he came to the conclusion very quickly that he couldn’t get off there without attracting this crocodile,” Mcleod told the ABC.
Mcleod said he has spotted the crocodile in question a few times in the region. “He was going by quite fast one day and he just happened to surface alongside me as I was going past. My boat is 20 foot long and he was well up on the 20 foot mark,” Mcleod said. (PTI)
