Guwahati: Online shopping has become very popular in the North East with Guwahati featuring among the top 15 cities across the country, according to online fashion portal Myntra.com.

“Youths from the region are extremely fashion conscious and tech savvy with online shopping giving them a platform to access the best international and Indian brands at affordable prices from anywhere,” Myntra.com co-founder Ashutosh Lawania told reporters here on Thursday.

“Guwahati along with the rest of Assam has always been known to be loyal markets and we are seeing them quickly emerge as a strong retail market,” he said.

There has been a steady increase in the number of online shoppers from Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sibsagar and Tinsukia in the past few months.

Myntra.com alone receives 350-400 orders per day from those cities, according to the portal.

“Catering to the growing demand from the region, Myntra recently opened its delivery centres in Guwahati and offers services to over 50 locations using third party couriers. The other states covered in the region are Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh,” Lawania said.

According to Myntra.com, 68 per cent of the shoppers are men with average age of 25 years. Lawani said that according to the recent ComScore report, Myntra ranked first for having the highest percentage reach of 17.1 per in India during June. The portal offers a wide range of prominent brands from across the globe and offers innovative features, including Product Exchange facility, where its logistics team delivers the new product and takes back the returned product in a single, hassle-free process.
