Public meet
The East Khasi Hills District SHG Federation will hold a public meeting on September 10 at Student’s Field, Jaiaw, at 10 am to discuss the issue of retaining of the Meghalaya Rural Development Society.
Awareness
An awareness cum voluntary blood donation camp was organized by Red Ribbon Club, Sohra Government College, in collaboration with Meghalaya Aids Control Society and Pasteur Institute recently in the college campus. Students and teachers voluntarily donated their blood on the occasion.
Debate
Women’s College, Shillong organized the 9th Mrs. Fatima I Hussain Memorial Inter-College Debate Competition on September 7 on the theme ‘India’s Post-Reform Economic Policies are Anti-Poor’. 13 participants representing seven institutions from across the city spoke for and against the motion. Kaholi of Women’s College was awarded the best speaker. St. Edmund’s College and Women’s College were awarded as joint winners while St. Anthony’s College bagged the runners-up trophy.
Literacy Day
The Khasi Authors’ Society will observe the Literary Day by felicitating the toppers in Khasi subject. Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh will grace the function as the chief guest on September 11 at 2pm at Mission Durbar Hall, Jaiaw. A book Ka Thiar ki Nongthoh and launch of the website of Ka Khasi Authors’ Society will be the highlights of the day.
Office bearers
The Umkhrah-Bishop-Cotton and McCabe Road Committee has elected Frilious Syiemiong as president, Subodh Kumar Dev and Rain Singh Lyngdoh as vice presidents, Probinus Syiemiong as general secretary, and all land owners as executive members.
