SHILLONG: In what can be termed as a major jolt for the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers Association Meghalaya (JACATAM), the All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers Association has resolved not to participate in the ongoing agitations sponsored by the umbrella organization of teachers.

AMPSTA Assistant General Secretary L Tiewsoh on Monday said that the Association had decided not to take part in the agitation underscoring that most members are unaware about the demands.

The decision to this effect was taken at the executive committee meeting of the Association held here recently.

The AMPSTA has also decided that a delegation of twenty members will meet the Education Minister Prof RC Laloo on September 30 to discuss the cut off month and year for the head teacher allowance besides advance increment for higher qualification from 1/4/2007.

No response yet: Even after the agitating teachers had served September 10 as the deadline for the state government to response to its demand, the JACATAM is yet to receive any invitation for talks. “Till date, we have not received any formal invitation from the state government for talks on the matter which only goes on to show that the government is not ready to comply with our demands,” JACATAM chairman ED Nongsiang said here on Monday. Irked by the adamant attitude of the state government, the agitating teachers are determined to go ahead with their second phase of agitation starting from September 11.
