SHILLONG: A fresh case of rape within the family has come to light after it was reported that an 8-year-old minor girl was raped on several occasions by her stepfather, one Sentalin Lyngdoh, between January 2013 and September 5, at a remote village near Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills District.

The accused was recently arrested following an FIR lodged by his wife (mother of the victim) who complained that she had caught her husband red-handed while committing the heinous act in the month of June.

Surprisingly, the girl’s mother informed that it took her three months to approach the police since her husband had threatened her against reporting the crime.

Police are now trying to establish whether the mother had any role in the crime. South West Khasi Hills SP, Debangshu Sangma, said that he will have zero tolerance for such acts.
