Berlin: Bayern Munich earned their fourth win of the season with two second-half goals against Hannover while Borussia Dortmund staged a goal festival against Hamburg to secure the fifth win in as many matches in the German Bundesliga on Saturday.
German treble winner Bayern Munich lost their last match to Freiburg therefore a win was a must so as not to let Dortmund move out of sight.
Bayern controlled the proceedings on the pitch from the kick off.
The German giants found it hard to get a breakthrough but stuck to their guns and were finally able to overcome Hannover bulwark when Mario Mandzukic exploited Toni Kroos’ square pass to slot home from eleven metres in the 51st minute.
The hosts took advantage of their momentum as they added a second goal in the 63rd minute. Frenchman Franck Ribery capitalised on a rebound inside the box to finish the game off.
Dortmund remain atop the standings as they crushed Hamburg 6-2. The hosts established a 2-0 lead through new arrivals Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitarayan and even though Hamburg drew level, a master class performance in the second half by Dortmund put the result well beyond Hannover.
