Three policemen killed in Chechnya blast

Moscow: Three policemen died in what is believed to be a suicide attack in Chechnya’s Sunzha region, the information centre of Russia’s National Anti-Terror Committee said on Monday.

Five others were injured when a car bomb exploded in the wee hours of Monday.

Authorities said “one of possible versions is that the explosion was made by a suicide terrorist”.

“Today, at about 0200 (hours) an unidentified explosive went off, causing (loss to) lives. As of 1100 (hours), three police(men) died, and five got injured,” the source said.

The injured have been admitted to hospital.

Russian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. (IANS)

French journalists kidnapped in Syria alive: Hollande

Paris: Two French journalists kidnapped in Syria three months ago are alive, President Francois Hollande has said.

“We are doing everything to release them, but making contacts to release them is a very long process,” Xinhua quoted the president as telling private channel TF1. Journalist Didier Francois and freelance photographer Edouard Elias were kidnapped in June when they were en route to Aleppo in Syria. (IANS)
