3 arrested with banned drugs

NONGPOH: In a major crackdown, three Tripura-based drug smugglers were arrested in Ri-Bhoi district along with a huge cache of banned drugs and cough syrups on Tuesday.

The arrested trio are Usman Goni (31), Rai Kumar Dev Barma (33) and Suny Dev Barman, all from Tripura.

Over 1000 bottles of Phensydyl (cough syrup) and a huge quantity of Spasmo Proxyvon tablets were seized and their estimated value in the market is over Rs 2 lakh

Informing this, CVS Reddy, SP, Ri-Bhoi said three smugglers were on their way from Kolkata to Agartala in a vehicle (TR-01P-6775), when a police team intercepted them at Byrnihat Outpost at around 12 pm.

The banned drugs were found hidden inside the empty spaces of the vehicle, he said adding that the trio were planning to send the consignment to Bangladesh.

The three accused, booked under Section 8(c), 21, 22, 23, and 29 of MDPC Act, were remanded to four-day police custody.
