168 labourers lodged in relief camp in Manipur
Imphal: At least 168 labourers, mostly migrant daily wage earners, are currently staying at a relief camp here following the killing of nine non-Manipuri workers last week, police said on Wednesday. These labourers had been brought from different parts of Imphal west, Imphal east, Thoubal and Bishenpur districts and were staying here under police protection, they said. Migrant labourers in other areas had been asked to work in those areas where security personnel were deployed, police said. Nine persons were killed and 12 others got injured when suspected militants exploded a bomb in a migrant labour camp in Nagamapal area in Imphal West district on September 13. (PTI)
Militant leader shot dead in Manipur
Imphal: A top militant leader of Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF) was shot dead by suspected rival faction in Manipur’s interior Ukhrul district, the police said on Wednesday. The body of ‘advisor’ of MNRF identified as Johnson Kasung (55) was found at Tolen Lamkhai area in the district with two bullet wounds this morning, sources said. Sources said some unidentified gunmen, suspected to be Naga militants, had kidnapped Kasung from Tangkhul Nagalong office area at Ukhrul district headquarters on September 13. The police have been on the lookout of his abductors, sources said adding that his body was found on Wednesday at around 6 AM. The body has been sent to district hospital for post-mortem, sources said adding no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the crime. (PTI)
Mizoram minister urges youth to seek better opportunies outside state
Aizawl: Mizoram Finance Minister H Liansailova on Wednesday emphasised the need for skill development and job-oriented educational courses to reduce unemployment among the Mizo youth. Inaugurating the first ever ‘Mizoram Skills Expo, 2013’ here, Liansailova said that the youths should go for better jobs outside the state and abroad. Haukhuma Hauzel, Member Secretary of the state Planning Board and Chairman of the Mizoram Skill Development Society (MSDS), quoting records of the employment exchanges said that there were more than 50,000 unemployed youths in the state. “It would be impossible to accommodate all the unemployed people in the government, private companies in the state and traditional occupations,” Hauzel said, adding that they should horn their skills to find lucrative jobs in other parts of the country and abroad.
