Arson continues in and around city

SHILLONG: In a shocking incident, miscreants on Wednesday evening assaulted two labourers and attempted to burn one of them by pouring petrol. The incident occurred at a labour camp at Umshing Mawkynroh here.

Luckily, both the labourers identified as Nazul Ali and Rahan Ali managed to escape from the clutches of the miscreants. According to East Khasi SP (city) Vivek Syiem, the three unidentified miscreants who had concealed their faces poured petrol on Nazul Ali.

Both are labourers for M/S Honsen Lyngdoh Earth movers working on VIP Road.

Syiem pointed the incident was an attempt to murder

and an FIR has been lodged.

Meanwhile, in another case of attempted arson, miscreants tried to set ablaze three shops at Bishnupur Bazaar junction on Thursday morning.

The incident took place at around 5 am. No damage was done to the goods in any of the shops– belonging to Shyam (Shyam Pan Shop), Samsher Nongrum (Zentech Xerox) and Ramesh Sharma– although the doors of the shops were partially damaged in the incident.

The Rangbah Shnong of Bishnupur said that the attempted arson is the handiwork of miscreants who are trying to take the advantage of the present situation.

He also said that he would have a discussion with the SP to beef up the security in the area even as he urged people to be on the alert to avoid such kind of incidents.
