Meritorious students felicitated

SHILLONG: All together 288 meritorious students were felicitated at the 10th Literary Award ceremony 2013 organized by the Raid Laban Sports, Social and Cultural Organization in collaboration with Meghalaya Government at U Soso Tham Auditorium on September 21.

The theme for the award ceremony was, “Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself”.

The award recipients included physically handicapped, visually impaired, hearing impaired and drop-out students belonging to poor BPL families. Laptop sets to the topper students of 19 South Shillong Constituency were presented in 12 different categories such as SSLC (boys and girls), HSSLC (boys and girls), BPL (boys and girls), ISC X, XII, CBSE X, XII, graduate and post graduates.

Hundashisha Syiemlieh from BPL category and a student of Lawsohtun Presbyterian Secondary School and Pratiksha Mishra, physically handicapped, from Fernando Speech and Hearing Centre, Umiam were among those topper students awarded with laptop sets.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, F R Kharkongor, Secretary, Education Department, congratulated the meritorious students for their achievement in different examinations as well as the organizers for recognizing the unique talents of the young students.

Kharkongor also asked the students to excel in professional fields and also to contribute to the society with their expertise in the competitive world of today. The felicitation ceremony will be a source of inspiration to the students’ community and will encourage them to march forward in life for their better future career, he added.

Shanbor Shullai, Deputy Speaker, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, and president of the organization graced the occasion along with host of dignitaries representing various schools and colleges.
