SHILLONG: On the occasion of the 69th Anniversary celebrations of The Shillong Times, four prominent columnists were honoured for their regular contributions to the newspaper.

The columnists – Toki Blah, Ananya S Guha, Phrangsngi Pyrtuh and HH Mohrmen – were honored during the function held here on Tuesday and attended by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Manish Tewari, and Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Managing Director and former Editor of The Shillong Times, Manas Chaudhuri, recalled the contributions towards the paper by its founding editor, late SB Chaudhuri, who stood by his principle of helping the marginalized tribals of the North Eastern region and speaking on their behalf by launching the paper in 1945, to act as a mouthpiece of the local people of the region.

He also quoted the words of late Chaudhuri that it was for the cause and the interest of the tribals that The Shillong Times was started.

According to Chaudhuri, the newspaper was the mouthpiece of the activists who were part of the Hill State Movement.

Earlier, Editor of The Shillong Times, Patricia Mukhim, delivered the welcome address.
