SHILLONG: Social activist Toki Blah on Tuesday clarified that he and a few others had attended the UDP meeting on Monday as members of concerned individuals to break the current impasse over ILP and not as members of ICARE.

Reacting to a news report in this regard, Blah said, “We came to the meeting as concerned individuals and not as members of ICARE although I am the president of the organisation. We shared our views and listened to the UDP leadership but we never agreed on any form of the ILP, modified or otherwise as a mechanism to solve influx.

We also never passed any judgement on any particular politician or political party as we had come with an open mind”. He added that it was unfortunate that the media had sensationalized the issue and created wrong impressions. Blah said that they are concerned over the ongoing impasse and felt that they should step in and request the warring parties to talk to each other and thrash out matters in the larger interests of the state and its people.
