SHILLONG: As a follow up to the recent MUA-II meeting, which had rejected ILP demand of 10 pressure groups, the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) will meet on Friday at the official residence of the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma to deliberate on the current impasse over the prolonged pro-ILP agitation.
A Congress legislator on Wednesday said that the CLP would discuss the issues related to influx and the ways and means to address it other than adopting ILP.
Friday meeting assumes significance as no CLP meeting has taken place till date to discuss the issue with reports indicating that not all the 29 Congress legislators are against implementation of ILP.
The High Level Committee on influx which recommended implementation of ILP had three Congress legislators — RC Laloo, Prestone Tynsong HDR Lyngdoh, and Ampareen Lyngdoh – as members besides the CEMs of all the three district councils.
There has been a growing demand from a section of Congress members to initiate dialogue with the agitating groups to end the present stalemate over ILP.
KHNAM STATEMEMENT: Meanwhile, KHNAM president Pyndapborthiaw Saiborne has said only an official notification is required to implement ILP in Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
“To bring Garo Hills under the purview of the ILP regulation a resolution to this effect passed by the State Assembly is needed,” Saiborne said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to him, Parliament does not require to pass any resolution to bring Garo Hills under the purview of ILP.
