Panchayat secretary in Bihar held on graft charge

Motihari: A panchayat secretary was on Wednesday arrested on graft charges after he was allegedly caught accepting a bribe in the East Champaran district of Bihar. Acting on a complaint, a vigilance team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kaniskh Kumar Singh laid a trap and caught Phenhara panchayat secretary Surendera Prasad Yadav while he was taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from one Shyam Kishore Singh for releasing the arrear of his teacher brother-in-law, official sources said. Shyam Singh’s brother-in-law is a contractual teacher at a primary school in Phenhara. Shyam had lodged a complaint against Yadav with the vigilance department, the sources said. (PTI)

27 fall ill after eating samosas

Bulandshahr (UP): At least 27 persons fell ill in Bhatkari village in the district allegedly after eating samosas bought from a local shop. The ill persons were rushed to government hospital at Debai Tuesday night after they ate the samosas, Chief Medical Officer Deepak Ohri said, adding that they were declared out of danger. The samosas were apparently stale, Ohri said. The allegedly guilty shopkeeper has been taken into custody police and the samples sent for testing, he said. (PTI)

Minor girl raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur: A three-and-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped when she went to fetch drinking water from a railway station in Rajasthan’s Sikar district, police said here on Wednesday. The girl, living in a shack near the station, was found in a critically injured condition by her parents after the assault Tuesday night and rushed to local hospital, before being referred to J K Lone hospital here, where she was operated on, SP (Sikar) Haider Ali Zaidi said. The condition of the victim was stated to be serious. The girl lives with her parents in a shack near Dabla railway station in Neem ka Thana area in Sikar, police said. She had gone to the railway station Tuesday night to fetch drinking water from a water cooler when someone caught hold of her, took her to a secluded spot and raped her, they said. “The girl was rushed to Jaipur last (Tuesday ) night where she was operated on,” Zaidi said, adding that two persons have been rounded rounded up on suspicion. The matter is being probed, he said. (PTI)

Seven held for forgery of marksheets, ID cards

Kanpur: Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a racket of forgery of marksheets and government-approved identification cards here with the arrest of seven persons, including a Kanpur University clerk. Following a tip off about the gang’s operation in Pared and Maniram Bagiya area, Crime Branch and local police team conducted a raid and nabbed the accused, SSP Yashaswi Yadav said. Numerous high school, inter, graduate, postgraduate, BBA, BSc, and MBA market sheets and degrees from various institutions have been recovered from their possession, Yadav said. Government-approved voter identification cards with 34 paper stamps and Rs 60,000 have also been seized, he said. Among the seven accused is Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University clerk Mahesh and driver of the university registrar Mukesh Jha. The other accused are Kamlesh Gupta, Nitin Aggarwal, Madanmohan, Ashish Sharma and Shyamji. Police is searching for other members involved in the racket. (PTI)

Holy Family Hospital to set up medical college

New Delhi: The Holy Family Hospital in the city is planning to set up a medical college as part of its Diamond Jubliee celebrations. The proposed Holy Family Academy of Health Sciences and Research will have facilities to conduct Diplomate of National Board (DNB) training in medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, a statement issued here said. Currently under its training programmes, the hospital runs the Holy Family College of Nursing which is affiliated to Delhi University. The 326-bedded multi-speciality hospital attends about 1,500 patients daily. The hospital is in the process of setting up 300-bedded facility each in the state of Haryana, Gurgaon, Badshapur and Nuh (Mewat), the statement said. The Hospital also runs a community Health Department that provides free medical services to slum dwellers in 12 slum clusters allotted by the Government. (PTI)
