HANM leader arrested, 19 others detained

NONGSTOIN: Police on Thursday arrested the president of HANM’s West Khasi Hills unit Arphul Kharbani for his alleged involvement in the torching of two offices (PWD (Roads) and the Meghalaya Khadi and Village Industries Board) at Nongstoin on September 23.

East Khasi Hills police also detained 19 others including HANM’s central body president Lamphrang Sngi Kharbani for questioning on Thursday.

The HANM, which has been demanding immediate removal of the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills District, had called for two-day office picketing on September 23 and 24.

The Nongstoin Police registered a case against Arphul Kharbani for his alleged involvement in the torching of the two offices.
