SHILLONG: The KSU Mawryngkneng circle has expressed anguish over the manner in which the police are handling the current state of affairs in the State while alleging them of leveling false accusations against KSU leaders with an aim to project themselves as the ‘ever-active protectors of the law’.
The discontentment was raised by the students’ union after one KSU leader from Mawryngkneng, Peter Lawai was alleged of being involved in an arson attempt at the BDO office at Mawryngkneng recently.
“These allegations are false and baseless and were done with a purpose to malign the image of Lawai and the union as a whole while at the same time, to draw the attention of the public towards their dynamism in their jobs,” General Secretary of KSU Mawryngkneng Circle Really Nongspung said.
Recently, police arrested one Bankerlang Syiemlieh after chasing him down following his involvement in attempting to set the BDO office at Mawryngkneng on fire.
After interrogation, the police mentioned that Peter Lawai, the general secretary of Mawryngkneng unit and assistant general secretary of KSU central body was also present during the incident but managed to escape during the chase.
The KSU has maintained that the statement given by the arrested person, Bankerlang Syiemlieh who is not even associated with the union was untrue. “Syiemlieh was forced to utter the name of Lawai just because he happened to stay next to the latter and it was done purposely by the police to frame this leader and project the union in bad light,” Nongspung said.
Soon after the report of the incident was flashed in the news, Lawai clarified that he was in no way connected to the attempted arson case at BDO office in Mawryngkneng while stating that the allegations had been framed by the police to tarnish his image as well as that of the KSU.
