Manipur govt issues notice to Myanmar authorities

Imphal: Manipur government officials posted in the border town of Moreh have informed Myanmar authorities about the border dispute.

A team of Manipur officials and Assam Rifles went to Tamu, Myanmar to attend Border Liaison Officers (BLOs) of India and Myanmar on Monday. The team has come back and informed that the team raised the issue of border dispute.

The Chittaranjan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Chandel led the Indian team while the Myanmar team was led U Kyaw, DC of Tamu.

The Indian team informed that Myanmar authority has erected Border Pillar no.76 where there used to be Border Pillar no.23 . Myanmar delegates raised that two houses were constructed near Border Pillar no.76.

It was clarified that the two villages were at Haolenphai village of Manipur.

Myanmarese Army was urged not to construct military base at the disputed zone and a joint survey was suggested by the Indian team. Six pilgrims from Manipur were arrested by Myanmar it was informed.

Exchange of goods, trade and other issues were also discussed.

Myanmar authority was not happy with the large numbers of infiltration of Bangladeshi citizens through Indian border. (UNI)
