SHILLONG: West Garo Hills police have arrested one Keroline K. Sangma for her alleged involvement in trafficking a young girl from Tura to Goalpara and Guwahati in Assam.

According to police, Sangma was arrested based on the complaint lodged by one Babiana M. Sangma who had stated that the accused took a girl from Sangsanggre, Tura and sold her to a customer in a hotel in Goalpara.

“She has been taken into custody and we are still enquiring into the matter to find out the number of girls who became victims in human trafficking through her,” West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police MK Singh said.

Singh said that many more enquiries need to be conducted in this regard with a hope to rescue the victim who was trafficked to Assam.

The SP said that the arrested lady denied her involvement in the case.

Stating that this is the first human trafficking case reported in the district, Singh said “This is a very sensitive case as it involves women and we need to find the connecting link in this case.”
