Shillong jailbreak probe report
SHILLONG: Unhappy over the contents of the Retd. Justice Rajkhowa report on the infamous Shillong jailbreak of May, 2009, the Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) has decided to approach the High Court to seek a CBI inquiry, even as the organisation claimed that the report had been tampered with.
Claiming that the contents would shame any judge writing such a report, the CSWO stated that the report was fit to be torn and discarded.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing on Wednesday said that she failed to understand how a seasoned judge would make the mistake of naming Kiewborlang Skembil as one of the UTP who escaped from jail, even though he was not a jail inmate at that point of time, and at the same time miss out the name of Ramu Thapa, who had actually fled with Fullmoon Dhar, the mastermind of the jail break.
“The introduction of the report itself points that the judge is surprised that the Convener of SCAMOD, Agnes Kharshiing, was not being a witness. The judge should have known that the Convener of SCAMOD was not at the scene but had managed to bring out many evidences. This is totally a vindictive point and (Retd.) Justice Rajkhowa would not have mentioned this,” Kharshiing alleged.
Stating that the seizure list had clearly mentioned that the gun was seized from Fullmoon who was lying in an injured condition, Kharshiing claimed that a person, who had sustained 11 bullet injuries and that too, in the vital parts of the body, would not continue to remain injured.
“It is unbelievable that crores of rupees of public fund were spent to get such a report that contains evidences of tampering of FIRs and arms and ammunition register (where the name of ex-MP PR Kyndiah is still there in the original register),” she said.
Kharshiing alleged that the very fact that the Government had kept on hold the report for nine months after its release and had skipped it in the first Assembly Session, and then coming out with a report full of grammatical errors and wrong names of UTPs who fled, is proof enough that this report was definitely tampered with.
