SHILLONG: After local MLA and MDC, Embhahlang Syiemlieh, was ousted as president of the UDP Mawlai Circle, members of the same circle have rallied behind their leader and have condemned the move by some disgruntled members who orchestrated the no confidence move without the knowledge of the president.

Expressing their confidence in Syiemlieh, the members have stated that the party refused to recognize the self-formed party under the leadership of Khrawbok Basaiawmoit. “This party has no connection with the UDP Mawlai circle,” supporters of Syiemlieh claimed.

They have also urged the people to recognize the local MLA as the president stating that at present, he is still the president since the recent election of a new president was a sham and was done with the intention of tarnishing the image of Syiemlieh.

Earlier, Syiemlieh had claimed that he had been illegally removed from his post since the decision was not as per the party’s constitution.

The Mawlai MLA had claimed himself to be the ‘owner’ of the party in Mawlai while terming as ‘tenants’ all those who were opposed to his position in the party.
