SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge PHE department Prof RC Laloo assured on Thursday that the restoration work of the unrepaired roads which were dug to make way for pipes under JNNURM Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme Phase III would be taken up after the monsoon.

“We should have repaired the roads immediately after the laying of the pipes but due to the monsoon season we could not start black topping of the roads,” Prof Laloo said while replying to a question raised by Mawlai legislator Embhah Syiemlieh during the Autumn Session of the Assembly here.

While replying to a supplementary question raised by Syiemlieh as to why the laying of pipes was taken only in one out of the 15 localities in Mawlai constituency, he said that the work would be completed soon.

Earlier, the Mawlai legislator had expressed concern over the pathetic condition of majority of the roads in and around Shillong.

Greater Mendal Water Supply Scheme

Prof Laloo while replying to a question raised by NPP legislator James K Sangma said that the total amount for construction of the Greater Mendal Supply Scheme is Rs 211.62 lakh and the scheme was sanctioned in March, 2012.

“The project is expected to be completed in three years,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
