Deborah submits list to AICC

New Delhi: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president Deborah Marak submitted the list of ticket aspirants for the Lok Sabha elections due in 2014 before the AICC on Tuesday.

“Yes. I have submitted the list to the AICC,” Marak told The Shillong Times. She, however, refused divulge anything more saying “it is upto the AICC to take the final call.”

The list was submitted to Madhusudan Mistry, AICC General Secretary and CWC member in the absence of the party in-charge L Falerio.

Sitting MP Vincent H Pala and Minister for Excise, Sports Zenith Sangma along with Daryl William Cheran Momin are the front runners for Congress ticket for the Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats respectively.

While there are four aspirants including former Union Minister Pala for the party ticket for the Shillong seat, a total of nine aspirants, including a lady, have applied for Congress ticket for Tura seat.

The election committee of the party, which met at the Chief Minister’s residence in Shillong on Friday, decided to forward the names all the ticket aspirants to the AICC.

Besides Pala, others who have applied for the party ticket for the Shillong seat are former MPCC president OL Nongtdu, former Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope and Congress member John F Kharshiing.

The candidates who are vying for the party ticket for the Tura seat besides Zenith, Congress MLA from Salmanpara and Parliamentary Secretary Winnerson D Sangma, former MLA Adolf Lu Hitler Marak, grandson of Meghalaya’s first Chief Minister Daryl William Cheran Momin, former Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Polycarp K Marak, former Deputy Chief of NERCORMP and current Executive Director of Haggai Institute, India, Bijoy A Sangma, Youth Congress general secretary Richard M Marak, retired District Industries Officer DK Arengh and retired Deputy Commissioner and senior Congress leader Mrs Arlene Mayne N Sangma, who is the lone woman contender.
