Kohima: The first online facility for Right to Information (RTI) in Nagaland was launched on Tuesday in Dimapur by Deputy Commissioner N. Husheli Sema.  According to official sources the website, www.rtidcdmp.nic.in, has been launched, primarily keeping in mind the convenience of a ‘significant percentage’ of RTI applicants from outside the state.
‘In order to ease the whole process and provide the applicants with the maximum convenience level possible, this initiative was conceived,’ informed Thavaseelan, an IAS officer trainee attached to DC Dimapur.
On an average, Dimapur receives 60 to 70 RTI applications every month, he informed. Applicants can now tract their application and appeal status online. Later, with the introduction of the phase-II of the project, applicants would be able to file the application online as well as deposit the fee amount using an integrated payment system online. Mrs. Husheli Sema, in her brief address, noted how the RTI Act has changed the face of governance and ensured that ‘we officials are always more careful and more transparent.’  The RTI however, she said, was not without its ‘negative’ aspects. The DC said ‘some department officials’ have been tried to be blackmailed by some RTI applicants after receipt of information and details sought. (UNI)
