Over 62,000 apply for voting rights in Tripura

Agartala: As many as 62,031 applications for enrolment in the photo electoral rolls have been received by the state election department here during the summery revision of photo electoral rolls.
According to official sources, the highest number of applications, (form-6), have been submitted in the Sadar subdivision in West Tripura district (9002). While 5063 applications for inclusion in the photo electoral rolls have been submitted in Sonamura subdivision, a total of 4011 applications have been received in Udaipur subdivision.
A total of 22,558 applications for delegation of names from the photo electoral rolls have been submitted in all the 60 Assembly constituencies.
While highest number of applications for deletion of names was submitted in Sadar subdivision, a nominal figure of 21 applications for deletion of names have been received in Gandacherra subdivision during September 2 to October 1.
As many as 13,700 applications for correction have been submitted in all the 60 Assembly constituencies during the period of summery revision of electoral rolls.
The highest number of forms for correction was submitted in Sadar subdivision.
“The figures have been accumulated after a long process including three special campaign drives during the summery revision,” said an official of the state election machinery here on Wednesday.
As per the schedule of summery revision of photo electoral rolls, disposal of claims and objections was scheduled to be held on November 23. However, with special permission from the Election Commission, hearing/ disposal of claims and objections have already started in some places.
The draft voters’ list was published on September 2, 2013 with January 1, 2014 as base year and according to the draft electoral rolls, the total number of electors was 23.48 lakh of which 11.96 lakh are male and 11.52 lakh female. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on January 6, 2014, according to official sources.
